What runs here
Marina Pez Vela hosts the Offshore World Championship, where teams that already won qualifying events around the world come to settle it, plus the Billfish Cup and a rotation of regional events. The marina opened in 2008, holds over 200 slips, and was built with exactly this in mind: big boats, big weigh-ins, and a crowd on the boardwalk.
That the world final happens out of the same marina we fish from is not a coincidence. The continental shelf drops close to shore here, so tournament fleets and charter boats alike reach productive water fast. Planning a trip around it
Two ways to play a tournament window, both good:
Fish it. The same weeks that attract tournaments are the best sailfish and marlin weeks of the year. A full day offshore during that stretch is this fishery at full strength. The only trap is logistics: hotels and boats fill around events, so book earlier than you think you need to.
Watch it. Weigh-ins and dock scenes at Marina Pez Vela are free entertainment of a kind you cannot get at home, and the restaurants on the boardwalk have front row seats. Pair a spectator afternoon with your own charter the next morning and you get both sides of it.
