The Vuelto Loco running out past the Quepos coastline at sunrise

Multi-day fishing packages

Days on the water, nights at Parador Nature Resort and Spa

The boat and the resort are run by the same people, so a fishing week here is one arrangement rather than two.

Most fishing packages in Costa Rica put you in a rented villa near the dock. Ours put you at Parador Nature Resort and Spa, on the Punta Quepos promontory above the Pacific, inside 12 acres of rainforest next to Manuel Antonio National Park. Vuelto Loco is operated by the team behind Parador, which is why we can build the whole trip and answer for all of it.

Everything below is a starting shape rather than a fixed product. Tell us your dates, how many of you there are, and how much of the week you actually want to spend fishing, and we will build it around that and quote the whole thing.

Four ways to put a week together

Nights at Parador, days on a 45-foot Viking, and the 20 minute run between them handled for you.

The Long Weekend

3 nights  ·  2 days on the water

The short version, and the one most people book first. One full day offshore chasing sailfish, mahi and tuna, and one half day inshore working the rocks for roosterfish and snapper. A rest day in between for the park, the spa, or doing nothing by the pool.

Good for: a first trip, or a long weekend bolted onto other travel.

The Sportfishing Week

5 nights  ·  3 fishing days

The core of what we do. Two full days offshore and one inshore half day, spaced so you are not on the water every single morning. This is the shape that suits most groups of four to six, and the one with enough runway that a slow day does not define the trip.

Good for: serious anglers who still want a holiday attached.

The Billfish Chase

5 nights  ·  4 full days offshore

Built for the peak billfish months, roughly December through April, when the sailfish numbers off Quepos are at their best and blue marlin are a live possibility. Four full days offshore, early departures, and the run out to the deep water every morning. No half days and no sightseeing.

Good for: anglers coming specifically for billfish, and for tournament weeks at Marina Pez Vela.

The Split Week

5 nights  ·  fishing and everything else

For the group where not everybody fishes. The anglers get their offshore and inshore days. Everyone else gets the whale watching cruise in season, a snorkeling and coastal run, and a sunset cruise, on the same boat with the same crew. Nobody spends the week waiting at the hotel for the fishing party to come back.

Good for: families, and couples where one of you is far more into this than the other.

Ask us to build one

What a package includes

  • Your nights at Parador Nature Resort and Spa, with the daily breakfast buffet
  • The charters listed, private to your group and never shared with another party
  • Ground transfers between the resort and Marina Pez Vela, about 20 minutes each way
  • Premium rods, reels, tackle and lures, a licensed local captain and a bilingual crew
  • Food and drink aboard, arranged around the length of the day

What it does not include

  • Sport fishing licenses. Every angler needs one from INCOPESCA. See the FAQ for how to get one.
  • 13% IVA, Costa Rica's sales tax, which is added to your total.
  • Airport transfers, though we can arrange them. Quepos has its own airstrip about 15 minutes from the marina, and San Jose is roughly three hours by road.

Where you stay

Parador Nature Resort and Spa sits on the Punta Quepos promontory, surrounded by 12 acres of rainforest and bordering Manuel Antonio National Park. There are 130 rooms and suites, from garden rooms through to beachfront suites and a penthouse, so a package can be built for a couple or for a group of twelve without anyone compromising.

On the property: five restaurants, from La Fragata for fine dining down to a pool bar; five pools including two that are adults only; the Pacífica Spa; and the Monkey Trail through the grounds, which is where most guests see their first sloth. After a full day offshore, the walk from the truck to a plunge pool is short.

The room category is part of what we quote, so tell us what matters to you. A view of the Pacific is not the same ask as a family suite.

Timing your week

Quepos fishes all year, but the calendar is not flat. Billfish peak from roughly December through April. Mahi and tuna are strongest in the green season. Humpbacks pass twice a year, with the southern migration running July to October. If your dates are fixed we will tell you honestly what to expect from them, and if they are flexible we will tell you when to come.

Questions about packages

How many nights does a fishing package run?

Most sit between three and five nights, with two to four days on the water. We build them around your dates rather than to a fixed schedule, so if you want a week or you only have a long weekend, both work.

What does a fishing package cost?

It depends on the number of nights, how many fishing days, the room category at Parador and the size of your group. Tell us what you have in mind and we will quote the whole thing properly rather than guess at it.

Can we mix inshore and offshore fishing?

Yes, and most groups do. Offshore is the run to blue water for sailfish, marlin, mahi and tuna. Inshore works the rocks and reef closer to home for roosterfish, snapper and jack. They are different days and they suit different moods.

What if not everyone in our group fishes?

That is what the Split Week is for. The anglers get their fishing days and everyone else gets whale watching in season, snorkeling, or a sunset cruise on the same boat. Parador also has five pools, a spa and the national park next door.

Do you handle airport transfers?

We can arrange them. Quepos has its own airstrip about 15 minutes from Marina Pez Vela, and San Jose is roughly three hours away by road. Tell us how you are arriving and we will sort the rest.

When should we come for billfish?

Roughly December through April is the peak for sailfish off Quepos, and blue marlin are a real possibility through it. That is also tournament season at Marina Pez Vela, so book earlier than you think you need to.
