Terms and conditions

These are the terms your charter runs on. They are written to be read rather than to be impenetrable. If anything here is unclear, ask before you book and we will explain it.

Who you are booking with

Vuelto Loco Charters, operating the motor yacht Vuelto Loco from Marina Pez Vela, Quepos, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Contact: info@vueltolococharters.com or +506 2777-3150.

Booking

An inquiry through this website is not a booking. Your date is held once we have confirmed it to you directly and the agreed payment terms are met. Until you have that confirmation from us, the date is not yours.

Prices

  • All prices on this site are in US dollars.
  • Prices are shown before 13% IVA, Costa Rica's sales tax, which is added to your total. Where an additional guest charge is quoted, that figure already includes tax and we say so.
  • A sport fishing license is not included in any price. Everyone fishing needs one from INCOPESCA. See the FAQ for how to get one.
  • Bespoke charters, including the island days, are quoted per trip rather than sold at a fixed rate.

Payment

Full payment is required 30 days before the service date. For accepted payment methods, and for whether a deposit is taken when you first book, ask us at the time. We would rather tell you directly than have you rely on a web page.

Our refund terms depend on the season and on how much notice you give. The full schedule lives in the FAQ so there is only ever one version of it:

Date changes are possible subject to availability and to those same terms. The earlier you tell us, the more we can do.

Weather, and the captain's word

The captain decides whether it is safe to leave the dock, and that decision is final. It is made on the morning of your trip, based on the conditions at the time.

If the captain calls off a trip for safety, you choose: a full refund, or a reschedule for a date that works for you. This is the one case that sits outside the cancellation schedule entirely. We would rather lose the booking than take an unnecessary risk with you aboard.

Weather can also shorten or reroute a trip after it has started. If sea conditions turn, the captain may change the plan or head in early. Safety is the reason, and it is not treated as a cancellation.

Fishing is fishing

We will put you on the best water we can find, with good gear and a crew who know it. Nobody can promise a fish. A charter buys you the boat, the crew and the day, not a guaranteed catch.

Capacity

Fishing charters carry up to 10 guests, with 6 included in the base rate. Cruises carry up to 12, with 8 included. These are limits we do not exceed. Your charter is private to your group and is never shared with another party.

Your part in a safe day

Boats are not living rooms. By coming aboard you accept the ordinary risks of being at sea, and you agree to follow the instructions of the captain and crew, which exist for your safety and are not negotiable while under way.

Tell us in advance about anything that affects your day on the water: medical conditions, mobility needs, pregnancy, non-swimmers, or the ages of children in your group. None of these are automatic barriers. We simply plan differently, and we can only do that if we know.

The captain may refuse boarding to anyone who is unfit to travel or whose behavior puts other guests or the crew at risk. That is not a decision anyone enjoys making and it is not taken lightly, but it is the captain's to make.

Looking after this coast

We fish within Costa Rican regulations. Billfish are released. Where a species is protected, out of season or over the limit, it goes back in the water, and no amount of asking changes that. The fishing here is good because it has been looked after, and we intend to keep it that way.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Costa Rica, and the courts of Costa Rica have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

Changes to these terms

We may update this page. The terms that apply to your charter are the ones in force on the day you booked it, not a version we published afterward.
