A Costa Rican fishing license is not included and every angler needs one. An 8-day INCOPESCA license runs about $16.95 per person. The application asks for passport and personal details, so you buy your own rather than us doing it for you. Buy it online before you travel, or at the INCOPESCA office at Marina Pez Vela on the morning of your charter. Give yourself a few minutes before departure if you are doing it at the marina. See the FAQ for how to get one.
Questions about this charter
What fish can I catch on a full day offshore charter from Quepos?
Marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi and wahoo are all realistic targets. Which one you are most likely to hook depends on the month: billfish peak from December to April, dorado and tuna from May to September.
How far offshore do you run?
Usually 20 to 35 miles, depending on where the fish are holding. The continental shelf drops off close to Quepos, so you are fishing productive water within about an hour of leaving the dock.
Do I need experience to book an offshore charter?
No. The crew set the gear, rig the baits and talk you through the fight. Complete beginners land billfish here regularly. Tell us it is your first time and they will plan the day around that.
Is the fishing catch and release?
Billfish, including sailfish and marlin, are catch and release only. Tuna, dorado and wahoo can be kept for the table, and the crew will clean and bag your catch.
What happens if we do not catch anything?
It happens, and no honest captain will promise otherwise. You are chartering the boat, the crew and the day, not a guaranteed fish. What we can promise is that the crew will work hard for it.
